After preservation efforts for the endangered spotted gopher forced Ferrum Mining Inc to be shut down, Paso Metal Recyclers took over as the major source of business in Paso.  SVL has been able to drum up some new business though, in the form of a lumber yard, and aims for more with the new Betteravia Industrial Park (Fancy way of saying a transload facility).

While Paso is a fairly arid area, one old coot hauled his mobile home up a hill nearby. Purportedly, the squatter has worked out a deal with the government to conduct a biannual census of the spotted gopher population in order to prevent being himself from being evicted, but his other activities aren’t necessarily appreciated by the proper authorities.

Most trains continue straight by Paso and onto Quinn and Ravine.
